"Big Fun in Feaudal Japan"

Films: Yokai Monsters: One Hundred Monsters (1968), Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare (1968), Yokai Monsters: Along With Ghosts (1969)

Alias: So many, but to name a few, Kappa, Futakuchi-onna, Kasa-obake, Rokurokubi, Abura-sumashi, Nuppeppo

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of children to average humans.

Affiliation: Good

Summary: If there's greed, avarice, or just plain evil around, don't fear for too long. For Yokai inhabit the Japanese land, and they'll do anything to get rid of those troublemakers, whether it's goofy antics or legitimately threatening them away.

History: For centuries, spirits known as Yokai, mostly lead by the sagely Abura-samashi, have protected sacred ground, and the people of Japan in general. Our first look at them was when a wealthy tycoon has his eyes on razing an important shrine, and you can bet the Yokai gave them a warm welcome. And then there was that time they went up against the eastern pinnacle of all evil: Daimon...

Notable Kills: See Final Fate.

Final Fate: The Yokai population's greatest achievement came when they all united to vanquish the evil Daimon by poking both his eyes out. From that moment on, they went back to delighting us viewers with carrying out justice against those who would trample over the weak.

Powers/Abilities: Aside from being mostly unkillable, the Yokai have a wide assortment of powers, such as the Rokurokubi's extending neck, or the Kasa-obake being able to lift things many times its weight.

Weakness: Something as powerful as Daimon can scare them.

Scariness Factor: 1.5-While some are a bit surreal and frightening, the Yokai as a team are just too silly and noble to be scared of. Who wouldn't want to hang out with these fun-loving beings who just want to lend a helping hand?

Trivia: -Yokai roughly translates to "Strange Apparition", and describes a number of mythical Japanese creatures. Did you know one was a racoon with gigantic balls? Not even joking. It's called the Tanuki.

-One of the most recognized Yokai in this series is the Kasa-obake, which is literally a one-eyed umbrella with limbs. In mythology, it's mostly a harmless being, though some have been known to carry people up into the air for laughs.

The Toho universe just got a bit stranger.

He gives "playing rough" a new definition.

"I asked for a feather boa! NOT THIS!"

Well, 1968 has been one heck of a year.
What a goofy looking bunch!

When the world asked for heroes, it gave them monsters.

Context, please.

Surprise!

Against Daimon, this guy would...well, I don't want to know.

"These masks don't make us look evil, right?

Even the long nosed one is looking good by now.
